I’ve gradually been moving away from this standard tuning. It’s valuable for a lot of music (I used to pursue bluegrass) but more recently I’m starting to move toward music that supports a different harmonic structure. Western swing and early and midcentury jazz and early and midcentury country music have wooed me for a long time and more recently I’ve pursued that direction. As of mid 2013 I’ve restrung my Dobro to C6 to sync with my lap steel tunings (which isn’t optimal for the resonance of the instrument) so that I can still play it. The acoustic resonance of resonator guitar is still very interesting to me since it’s so different from amplified steel guitars.
